Valley View Medical Center Implements Innovative New AI-Powered Technology to Detect and Monitor Non-Convulsive Seizures

Valley View Medical Center is transforming neurological care for critically ill patients with the adoption of the Ceribell System, an FDA-cleared electroencephalography (EEG) device powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Designed for rapid seizure detection and continuous monitoring, this groundbreaking technology enables hospital teams to quickly make critical treatment decisions and potentially provide better outcomes for patients at risk of non-convulsive seizures.

Non-convulsive seizures present a significant challenge in acute care. These seizures occur without obvious symptoms, making them difficult to detect and often delaying treatment. Like convulsive seizures, without prompt management with anti-seizure medication, non-convulsive seizures can become more difficult to manage, progress to status epilepticus and potentially lead to increased rates of cognitive morbidity and mortality.[1],[2] Millions of ICU and emergency department patients across the U.S. are at risk for these silent seizures, commonly triggered by conditions such as brain injuries, cardiac arrest, stroke, or sepsis.[3],[4] Similar to stroke, "time is brain" for seizures—prompt diagnosis and intervention are critical as treatment efficacy declines with every hour of delay.2

The Ceribell System includes an easy to apply headband, a portable recorder, and intuitive AI-driven software.
